Professionally he was the longest serving President of Bengal state branch of Indian Pharmaceutical Association. He rose to the rank of Vice President of Indian Pharmaceutical Association. He was on the Editorial Board of Pharmatimes,  The International Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical sciences. For his life time achievements he was crowned the G P Srivastava National best teacher award by the APTI at Chennai session of IPA. Twice he was the recipient of the prestigious Cooper Memorial Gold medal for having published the best original research paper in the journal of Institution of Chemists. He was bestowed the most honoured Acharya P C Ray Memorial Gold Medal. Recently the Calcutta Journalist has honored him with a plaque for his awareness writing on drugs and its effect on our environment. Prof. Gupta is a voracious reader and prolific writer on scientific topics with social orientation.

He was the member of Academic Committee, School of Natural Product Studies, Jadavpur University. President Indian Science Congress Association (Medical & Veterinary) Elected 2002, Expert Traditional Medicine appointed by  the government of India for WHO and AU 2008 Uvnas Prize as, Indian Pharmacological Society for best Research Publication 1977, 1989 Teaching BAMS, MD(Ayurveda), B.Tech ,M.Tech (Pharmaceutical technology, Calcutta University), B.Pharm (Ayurveda), MBA (Herbal Pharmaceutical Management), M.VSc (Herbal Pharmacology)

As a research fellow has the requisite experience on the Bio-chemistry of Ayurvedic Drugs as well as has the clinical experience of more than 1 decade of Research experience – Bose Institute , Kolkata & Post Graduate Institute for education and Research (Ayu.).
